El presidente Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador orden\u00f3 revocar y no dar m\u00e1s autorizaciones para el uso de ma\u00edz gen\u00e9ticamente modificado para alimentaci\u00f3n humana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El grano gen\u00e9ticamente modificado a\u00fan se podr\u00e1 usar para alimentaci\u00f3n animal y \u201cde uso industrial para alimentaci\u00f3n humana\u201d, pero solo mientras se encuentran alternativas para sustituirlo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El gobierno afirm\u00f3 que esto no afectar\u00e1 al comercio:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2026porque M\u00e9xico es de sobra autosuficiente en la producci\u00f3n de ma\u00edz blanco libre de transg\u00e9nicos. De lo que se trata es de consolidar tal soberan\u00eda y seguridad alimentaria en un insumo central en la cultura de las y los mexicanos\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En decreto publicado este lunes, el presidente tambi\u00e9n proh\u00edbe el uso del glifosato, con un periodo de implementaci\u00f3n en marzo de 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seg\u00fan el decreto, hay 12 alternativas en el mercado para sustituir a este herbicida: cinco productos agroecol\u00f3gicos que est\u00e1n en desarrollo en M\u00e9xico y siete bioherbicidas disponibles a nivel mundial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En su decreto, el presidente afirma que el objetivo principal de estas medidas es la \u201cprotecci\u00f3n del derecho a la salud y a un medio ambiente sano, del ma\u00edz nativo, de la milpa<\/strong>, de la riqueza biocultural, de las comunidades campesinas y del patrimonio gastron\u00f3mico; as\u00ed como garantizar la alimentaci\u00f3n nutritiva, suficiente y de calidad\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La medida contrasta con la solicitud que hizo el gobierno de Estados Unidos para que M\u00e9xico explicara los fundamentos cient\u00edficos de su postura sobre el ma\u00edz gen\u00e9ticamente modificado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La representaci\u00f3n comercial de Estados Unidos afirma que una prohibici\u00f3n podr\u00eda afectar las relaciones econ\u00f3micas entre ambos pa\u00edses; si hay conflicto podr\u00eda dirimirse con las reglas del TMEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previamente funcionarios estadounidenses expresaron \u201cgraves preocupaciones\u201d sobre las pol\u00edticas de biotecnolog\u00eda agr\u00edcola de M\u00e9xico en reuniones con sus hom\u00f3logos mexicanos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
